According to a fresh sociological study, 28.1% of Belarus residents prefer to keep cash savings in the national currency. The data were obtained by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on behalf of BISI.
The information sheds light on how citizens assess their material situation and plan their budget.
What the numbers say
Chairman of the board of the RGOO “Belarusian Society “Knowledge”” Alexey Avdonin, commenting on the results, emphasized that the fact that more than a quarter of those surveyed keep savings in the native currency is a marker of confidence in the financial and credit policy of the National Bank.

Interestingly, against this backdrop of trust, almost half of the survey participants (41.3%) admitted that they do not save at all, and 33.4% resort to installments and loans.
Avdonin links this to the global consumption trend: people are confident about tomorrow and are ready to spend to secure a stable future for themselves and their children. At the same time, 12.4% still find a way to direct excess funds to bank deposits, which the sociologist calls a high indicator that gives citizens passive income.
Work and salary
The level of life satisfaction looks optimistic. 82.2% of respondents rate their family's material situation as good (only 17.7% as bad), and 82.1% are satisfied with their workplace.
The priorities were distributed interestingly: 54.3% chose the option “earn a lot, even if it means working very hard and intensely.” The alternative “have a modest income but more free time and easier work” was preferred by 37.3%.
Household and spending
Financial literacy at the household level is also high: 80.6% of respondents know the exact cost of basic food items they regularly purchase.
As for expenses, the picture looks like this:
Over the past five years, 36.7% of families carried out renovations, 31.8% purchased durable goods, and 26.4% managed to go on vacation.
The study was conducted in July—August 2026. It involved 2,045 people from all regions of the country.
