Future technology: BELAZ and Norilsk Nickel combine efforts to produce unmanned mining equipment.

A new chapter in a mutually beneficial partnership between industrial giants. BELAZ and Russia's Norilsk Nickel are forming a joint venture.

The focus is on producing next‑generation mining equipment. It will be able to operate underground in an autonomous, unmanned mode. The venture will be located in Belarus, while a full‑profile repair base will be established in Russia.

This is not the first outcome of the fruitful collaboration between the giants. In August, the first BELAZ mining loader entered factory trials. The model was developed jointly with Norilsk miners. Soon, pilot‑industrial trials of battery‑powered dump trucks will begin. The agreement on long‑term cooperation and strategic partnership was signed last year. For BELAZ, this enables it to occupy new promising niches in the international market. For the partners, it resolves the issue of import substitution.
