Cooperation between Belarus and Tanzania in the Agro-Industrial Complex: Trade Growth, Logistics, Training, and an Action Plan

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Alexander Yakovchits held a working meeting with a delegation of the United Republic of Tanzania, led by the country's Registrar of Cooperatives, Dr. Benson Otieno Ndiege. The delegation included representatives of the relevant ministry as well as business circles interested in developing ties in the fields of animal husbandry, crop production, and agricultural engineering.

The bilateral dialogue is entering a phase of qualitative growth: by the end of 2025, the trade turnover of agricultural products increased 3.6 times. The foundation of Belarusian exports consisted of vegetable and rapeseed oils, as well as meat-and-bone meal. In the first half of 2026, Belarus imported coffee, beans, oilseeds, and fruits from Tanzania.

Alexander Yakovchits: Tanzania is an important partner on the African continent, and our potential for cooperation is far from exhausted. We are ready for a large-scale presence: from supplying poultry meat, dry milk, butter, and baby food to comprehensively providing veterinary medicines and vaccines for livestock. Now the focus is shifting to solving practical tasks: optimizing logistics, customs clearance, and financial settlements.

The parties discussed issues of training specialists and students. Belarus proposed drawing on the capacity of four specialized universities to train Tanzanian specialists across the full range of in-demand agricultural specialties, from selection to agribusiness management.

Dr. Benson Otieno Ndiege: We were deeply impressed by the level of mechanization and technological advancement of Belarusian agriculture. Today, 70% of Tanzania's population is employed in small-scale farming, and we face the task of dramatically increasing land productivity. We see Belarus as a reliable partner ready to share its experience in crop production, animal husbandry, and personnel training.

Based on the results of the meeting, an action plan was formed. Diplomatic missions and business structures will continue work on commercial agreements in order to translate the stated intentions into the realm of real, mutually beneficial projects.
