GDP Growth at 3%: How Belarus Can Achieve This Target
tania September 2, 2026 11:29 GDP growth of 3% per year is achievable for the Belarusian economy. This was stated by Alexander Egorov, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank. In doing so, the monetary authorities outlined the conditions for an economic breakthrough.
GDP Target: 2.8% in 2026 and 3% on Average
First and foremost, the target figure for 2026 stands at 2.8%. In addition, the All-Belarusian People's Assembly has set the task of growing by 3% annually. Without this, average GDP growth over the five-year period is unattainable.
GDP Growth Requires Competitive Products
However, simply selling goods abroad is no longer enough. Products must be competitive. The focus is on high technologies: IT and biotechnology. It is important to use land and forest resources efficiently. To develop production based on local raw materials. Moreover, decisions need to be made faster and production costs reduced. A separate task is to increase the share on the Russian market. At the same time, exports must be diversified. Goods will go to Russia and the countries of the Global South.
Technologies Plus Traditional Strengths
At the same time, Egorov emphasized: there is no need to reinvent the wheel. The agricultural sector already guarantees food security and revenue. The IT sector generates high added value. Consequently, GDP growth will come from automation, artificial intelligence, and digital services. The economy is driven by the daily efficient labor of every individual.
