The formed strategy for the development of the country's greenhouse farming will allow meeting the market's demand for tomatoes. This was reported by Nikolai Leshik, head of the Main Department of Crop Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, as reported by BELTA correspondent.
He noted that during the off-season, Belarusian producers fully supply the domestic market with fresh cucumbers.
"As for tomatoes, we have so far been able to produce them only up to 40%. However, with the launch of new highly efficient greenhouse complexes, planned for December 2026, which will be in the next off-season period, we will practically be able to meet the demand for domestically grown tomatoes," he said.
At present, a strategy for the development of the country's greenhouse farming has been formed.
"There are programs, financing sources have been identified for the projects being implemented, and organizations have started their implementation. These include, first and foremost, the Zhdanovichi agro-industrial complex, JSC DorOrs, and the Minsk Vegetable Factory," Nikolai Leshik said.
