"45 rubles a month even with no income: how the new professional income tax could hit your wallet and what to do to avoid paying it" ⚠️💸
Starting July 1, 2026, new rules came into force in Belarus for payers of the professional income tax (PIT). Now, even if you are registered as self-employed but earn no income, the state will still charge you a minimum tax. We break down how much you'll have to pay, what penalties you face for non-payment, and how to properly deregister so debts don't pile up. 📋
💵 How much do self-employed pay now?
The main innovation is the introduction of a minimum tax threshold for everyone registered as a PIT payer.
🔹 For most self-employed — 45 rubles per month. This amount must be paid even in months when there was no income or income was less than 450 rubles.
🔹 For pensioners — 18 rubles per month (taking into account the benefit on insurance contributions to the Social Security Fund).
Important: the obligation to pay the minimum tax does not depend on whether you actually conduct any activity. If you are registered as a PIT payer, the tax will be charged automatically, even if you did not issue any receipts.
⚠️ What happens for non-payment? Three months of debt — and you're on the list
Legislation has tightened control over payment discipline. If a self-employed person fails to pay the tax on time for three consecutive months, the tax authority gains the right to unilaterally terminate their PIT status.
Consequences:
🔹 Forced removal from the PIT payer registry.
🔹 Recovery of the debt through enforcement authorities — this can lead to the seizure of bank accounts or property.
🔹 A ban on returning to PIT for 6 months after removal from the registry.
The deadline for paying PIT is no later than the 22nd of the month following the expired tax period.
🚪 How to properly deregister so you don't have to pay
If you are registered as self-employed but do not plan to conduct any activity or are taking a "tax vacation," be sure to deregister. Otherwise, the minimum tax will continue to be charged even with zero income.
Step-by-step instructions via the "Profdokhod" app:
Open the "Profdokhod" app.
Go to the "Settings" section.
Select "Account."
Click "Deregister" and confirm the action.
Deregistration happens almost instantly. From that moment on, charges for future periods stop.
❓ What if you've already deleted the app?
Deleting the app does NOT mean deregistration. Many self-employed people mistakenly believe that if they deleted "Profdokhod," no tax will be charged. This is not true. You remain in the register of Professional Income Tax (NPD) payers, and the minimum tax will continue to be charged.
To fix the situation:
Download and reinstall the "Profdokhod" app.
Log in with your details (if you forgot your password, recover it).
Go through the deregistration procedure (Settings → Account → Deregister).
🔑 Forgot your login or password? Recovering access
If you've lost access to the app, don't despair. There are several ways to recover it:
If you forgot your password but remember your login:
On the login screen, tap "Forgot password?"
Enter your login and answer the security question.
A new password will be sent to the email you provided during registration.
If you forgot both your login and password:
Tap "Forgot password" → "I don't remember my login" → "Proceed to registration."
Select authorization "via mobile operator."
Enter your personal passport number (14 digits) and phone number.
Enter the code from SMS — your login will appear on the screen.
Come up with a new password and log in to the app.
Or visit any tax inspection office — they will help you restore access.
🔍 How to check if you are registered as an NPD payer
Don't remember if you deregistered? You can check for free through the official tax authority (MNS) website:
Go to the MNS website and find the service "Check registration of an individual as a professional income tax payer."
Enter your UNP (taxpayer identification number) and full name.
The system will show whether you are listed in the NPD payers register.
If you don't know your UNP, you can find it through the "Search for individuals" service on the MNS website by entering your full name and passport number.
