Taking into account the coronavirus-related restrictions currently in place in the countries of the region, as well as the specific conditions and the acute socio-economic problems in each individual country or sector, we call upon member organizations of the WFTU to mark this day by holding various solidarity actions that do not require large gatherings of people. These could include events in the form of issuing statements and addresses, organizing media campaigns, publishing articles and interviews with trade union leaders and activists, discussing COVID-19 issues at meetings of tripartite commissions, virtual meetings, webinars, and other remote events.

At the same time, we recommend that trade unions firmly insist on being equal participants at all levels in the development and implementation of plans to overcome the consequences of the pandemic, including within the framework of social dialogue. This will help ensure that the principles of decent work are not violated during the conduct of these activities, and that plans to overcome the current economic difficulties are not implemented at the expense of the rights and interests of workers and their trade unions.

We are convinced that holding the 13th Day of Action in the countries of our region will serve as evidence of the commitment of the WFTU and its member organizations to the principles of solidarity in the struggle of the international trade union movement for the rights and interests of employees in the context of implementing measures to eliminate the consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic.
