Annual inflation in Belarus continues to gain momentum. In August, prices rose by 4.5% compared to the same period in 2025, according to Belstat data.

The indicator is still increasing gradually, but this is the second month in a row. After June's 4.3%, it rose to 4.4% in July, and now it has increased by another 0.1 percentage point.

At the same time, services became the most expensive in annual terms, rising by 8.7%. Prices for non-food goods increased by 3.2% over the same period, and food prices rose by 3.1%.

But there is also good news

If we look at monthly dynamics, the picture turned out to be the opposite: in August, consumer prices fell by 0.1% compared to July.

Food products provided the negative dynamics: they became cheaper by 0.8% last month.

But in the other categories, prices continued to rise. Non-food goods became more expensive by 0.5%, and services by 0.3%.

And how have prices changed since the beginning of the year

Compared to December 2025, inflation in Belarus has increased by 3.1%.

Services saw the largest increase – 7.6%. Non-food goods became more expensive by 2.8%, while food prices rose by only 0.7%.

Why have prices started to rise faster

Analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank explained the acceleration in price growth for non-food goods by changes in the price regulation system.

In the summer, Belarus significantly reduced the list of goods whose prices are regulated by the state. According to experts, this is one of the reasons for the faster price growth in the non-food segment.

However, analysts still assessed the overall price pressure as moderate.
