In the Brest Region, a mass storage of potatoes, vegetables, and apples will begin in early October. This was reported to the BELTA correspondent by the main Department of Trade and Services of the Brest City Council.

During the off‑season period 2026/27, more than 20,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetable produce are planned to be supplied to the trade and social sectors of the Brest Region. The volumes are calculated based on actual sales last year, and for the budget sector they take into account the approved nutrition standards in educational and healthcare institutions, the main Department of Trade and Services noted.

The peculiarity of this season is that, by state order, cucumbers and tomatoes grown in domestic greenhouse complexes will also be supplied to stores. For the needs of the Brest Region, 1.27 thousand tonnes of cucumbers and 0.85 thousand tonnes of tomatoes have been reserved. Suppliers have been identified, volumes are being allocated, and contracts are being signed.

All volumes for potatoes, vegetables, and apples have been allocated, the relevant decisions have been taken, and supply contracts have been fully signed. For the needs of trade organizations, 38 economic entities will carry out the deliveries, and for the budget, 34, including 11 consumer cooperative organizations and the specialized enterprise TPUPK “Plodovoshch,” explained the specialists.

In the southwestern region, the acceptance of storage sites for fruit and vegetable produce is being completed, commission inspections are being carried out, and deficiencies are being addressed. Meanwhile, in the region, the harvest is being collected and preparations for the storage of potatoes, vegetables, and apples are underway. “The mass storage will start in early October. Certain crops (for example, cabbage) will be stored in November. Cucumbers and tomatoes will go straight to the shelves after harvest,” the main Department of Trade and Services noted.
