In addition to scraps, garbage, and rodents, the diet of a stray cat includes a minimum of 30 birds per year. The minimum density of stray cats in residential areas of a standard European-type urban multi-story settlement is 50 animals per km² (attics, basements, utility rooms, etc.). Thus, on this small territory, stray cats destroy no fewer than 1,500 birds per year!

Stray dogs that survive on the streets live in packs and no longer need a human as a master-friend. And this leads to consequences.

Expectations that the state will provide lifelong housing for all captured animals in temporary holding facilities are not entirely justified.

Today, there are 63 temporary animal holding facilities in the republic, providing more than 2,400 places. Unfortunately, given the number of animals captured (over 20,000 per year), this is insufficient. No more than a third of the animals are successfully rehomed to new owners. The role of animal welfare organizations and activists here is hard to overestimate. But this is the maximum they can achieve.
