A graduate who receives a job placement acquires the status of a young specialist. Along with this status come certain guarantees, benefits, and restrictions. The Ministry of Labor explained what is important for those just starting their professional careers.

Employment in the field of specialization and without a probationary period

The young specialist must be offered a job that matches their obtained specialization and qualifications in accordance with the placement.

When assigning the position, an employment contract or agreement is signed with the worker for a period not less than the established mandatory service period. No probationary period is set.

Resignation at one's own will is not allowed

During the mandatory service period, the young specialist cannot resign at their own will or by mutual agreement.

Employment relations may be terminated, for example, if the worker enrolls in full‑time studies to raise their education level, is elected to a position, or in the event of the organization’s liquidation or staff reduction.

Grounds for dismissal may also include a mismatch of the position due to health status or a serious disciplinary offense—such as absenteeism or arriving at work in an alcoholic state.

Additional rest before starting work

The young specialist is granted a paid leave on general terms.

In addition, before starting work, he is entitled to additional rest:

31 calendar days in general; 45 days for educators; 60 days for coaches.

What benefits can be received

One of the main payments is monetary assistance, or “upward” funds. Its amount equals one monthly stipend that the graduate received in their last semester of study.

If there was no stipend, the calculation is based on the amount of the social stipend. The money must be paid within a month after the employment contract is signed.

If the young specialist moves to work in another locality, they may also receive a benefit equal to one tariff rate, rate, tariff or position salary.

To receive this benefit, one must confirm the move with documents and submit a written request to the employer.

Who is entitled to additional payments up to 50%

For young specialists who come to work in budget organizations, monthly incentive payments are provided. Their amount depends on the sector.

In addition, the organization may provide compensation for housing rent expenses through local regulations.

Young specialists are also given the opportunity to obtain a preferential loan for purchasing consumer goods of Belarusian production. The rate is 25% of the refinancing rate, the amount up to 30 times the living wage budget for the working population, the term up to five years. The first payments begin six months after receiving the funds.

To retain the benefit, the established period must be worked.

Can one get a promotion

If the new position is related to the acquired specialty, a young specialist can move to it in the general procedure. This requires his written consent.

What happens if one goes on parental leave

Parental leave is counted towards the required service period. During the same period, military conscription or contract service, reserve service, and alternative service are included.
