In Brest, a driving simulator has been introduced to train bus drivers. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the municipal unitary enterprise "Brest Public Transport."

"Driver training is carried out by specialized organizations. Since 2021, we have obtained the relevant permit and set up a training center on the basis of our enterprise, which is part of the traffic safety service. We are able to provide advanced training for bus drivers and training for Category I drivers, that is, trolleybus drivers," the enterprise said.

Now bus drivers can learn and hone their skills with the help of advanced technologies. "Brest Public Transport," together with Brest State Technical University, has developed a simulator replicating the workplace of a MAZ bus driver operating on city routes. The project was launched last year. "The software was developed at BrSTU. The procurement of equipment and execution is our responsibility. A virtual training ground has been created for bus drivers. All the exercises that a driver needs to complete during a practical lesson have been incorporated," the specialists explained.

The simulator is a space identical to a bus cabin. The driver performs exercises while the computer strictly and impartially records every action behind the wheel. This makes it possible to practice practical skills, including driving on city streets, approaching a bus stop, and picking up/dropping off passengers.

The Brest residents began using the simulator this summer. There are plans to provide similar training opportunities for trolleybus drivers.

Brest's public transport switched to the autumn-winter schedule on September 1. During this period, passenger traffic on city routes traditionally increases. It is also expected that by the end of the year the regional center will receive ten electric buses.
