Belarus ranks among the top ten forested countries in Europe: 40.5% of the country's territory is covered by forest. In 2025, the area covered by forest amounted to 8,402.9 thousand hectares, which is 26.6 thousand hectares more than in 2024.

Of the total forested area of the country, 1,364.7 thousand hectares are allocated to nature reserves, national parks, sanctuaries, and nature monuments.

In 2025, each Belarusian had 0.9 hectares of forested land.

As of January 1, 2026, forests covered 46.9 % of the territory of the Gomel region, 42.4 % in Vitebsk, 39.6 % in Mogilev, 38.6 % in Minsk, 36.8 % in Brest, and 36.2 % in Grodno.

The area of forest restoration and afforestation in 2025 totaled 38.2 thousand hectares, of which 76.4 % was dedicated to planting and seeding forests. In nurseries, 125 hectares were sown with seeds of tree and shrub species, 29.1 % of which were improved seeds.
