How the currency market is changing in Belarus was explained by Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Andrei Kartun in the "Economic Environment" program on the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA reports.
"The total volume of the country's population deposits has exceeded the psychological mark of 25 billion rubles. Moreover, 70% are ruble deposits, although just a few years ago about half were in dollars. For the third year in a row, the population has been a net seller of currency," Andrei Kartun noted.
The dollar is no longer trusted as much as before. According to IMF estimates, the American currency has lost about twenty points in the structure of international reserves over the past years.
"The currency market has transformed, and we, accordingly, are also forced to change our approaches. For example, the share of the euro was always above 20% in the payment structure. Now it is approaching zero: the euro is not in demand," Andrei Kartun noted.
