Balancing child-rearing and a professional career is not easy. However, in Belarus, working parents are entitled to labor guarantees, state benefits, and additional support measures from employers. Moreover, assistance to families is not limited to maternity leave: parents can count on a flexible schedule, additional days off, and financial support, as reported by the Ministry of Labor's Telegram channel.

Women balancing work and child-rearing Women make up 51% of the total employed population in Belarus's economy. The employment rate for women of working age reaches 85.6%, whereas for men it is 84.5%.

Among those aged 25 to 49, when many are forming families and raising children, women's employment reaches 94.5%. For men in the same age group, the figure is 94.8%.

Furthermore, 43.5% of working women are raising minor children. Among female managers, the proportion of mothers with minor children is even higher—44.2%.

According to the data presented, for 58.3% of women, family is more important than a professional career. Another 30% consider family and career equally significant.

These figures show how important it is to create conditions that allow parents not to have to choose between work and caring for children.

Protection against dismissal. The legislation sets restrictions on termination of an employment contract at the employer's initiative concerning pregnant women, women with children under three years old, and single fathers raising children of this age.

Flexible schedule and part‑time work. In cases provided for by law, the employer is obliged to establish a part‑time working day or week. In particular, this right belongs to pregnant women and mothers raising a child under the age of 14.

Additional day off and reduced working day

Parents are also provided with special opportunities to free up time for family matters.

Parents raising three or more children under the age of 16, or a child with a disability under the age of 18, are granted an additional paid day off per week, or the possibility to reduce daily working time by one hour while retaining their salary.

Parents of two children under the age of 16 are provided with an additional day off per month without salary retention; payment for this day may be stipulated in a collective agreement.

Such measures enable parents to devote more time to their children without giving up work and professional development.

What financial support can families count on

State support for families includes one‑time payments upon the birth of a child, monthly child‑care benefits, and family capital for large families.

The amounts of payments vary depending on the number of children and the family's specific circumstances.

According to the provided data: the one‑time allowance for the birth of the first child is about 5,300 rubles, for the second and subsequent children about 7,400 rubles; the monthly allowance for child care up to three years of age is about 1,100 rubles for the first child, more than 1,200 rubles for the second and subsequent children, and about 1,400 rubles for a child with a disability; the amount of family capital is 35,505 rubles.
