Were you surprised by the prices of the iPhone Duo? Take a look at how much the Huawei Mate XT2 costs

Last week, Huawei unveiled the new tri-fold Mate XT2 in China. A global launch of this smartphone is not expected, but many resellers in Europe are already offering the device for substantial sums.

The Mate XT2 features a redesigned form factor compared to earlier Huawei tri-fold smartphones, which folded both inward and outward, similar to the letter Z. The new model uses a U-shaped (or G-shaped) mechanism that folds inward twice, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. The result is an external display with a diagonal of approximately 6.5 inches, which unfolds into an internal screen measuring 10.2 inches.

In China, prices start at 19,999 yuan (≈2,560 euros) for the model with 16/256 GB of storage and go up to 24,999 yuan (≈3,200 euros) for the version with 1 TB of storage and privacy protection. More expensive configurations, including the model with 2 TB of storage and a stylus, cost around 30,000 yuan (≈3,880 euros).

Some retailers are already offering the tri-fold for purchase, reports Gizmochina. For instance, Trinity Electronics (Hong Kong) and AverageDad (UAE/UK) are already offering the tri-fold. The model with 12/256 GB of storage costs around 3,626 euros at Trinity and 3,685 euros at AverageDad.

The 512 GB version costs around 3,845–3,865 euros, while the 1 TB models (with and without the protective screen) range from approximately 4,065 to more than 5,000 euros depending on the seller and configuration. None of the sellers currently offer the top-end 2 TB version.

As Gizmochina noted, these import prices for the Huawei Mate XT2 are significantly higher than for Apple's iPhone Duo, which starts at $1,999 in the US and around 2,300 euros in Germany. Even the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, launched in the US at $2,899 before taxes, is still noticeably cheaper than the grey market prices for Huawei devices.

Beyond the high cost, there are also practical issues: the Mate XT2 lacks eSIM, has no support for Android Auto or Wear OS, and the language selection may be limited. As with other recent Huawei models, Google Mobile Services are absent, so accessing the Play Store will require workarounds. Those wishing to purchase the smartphone will also have to contend with the warranty and support risks typical of grey market devices.
