Wanted a trendy jacket: Teenager lost money during online shopping in Borisov

The Borisov District Department of Internal Affairs received a report from the parents of a 15-year-old teenager who wanted to buy a jacket from one of the online stores. The young man transferred money to the seller—about 250 rubles—but never received the item.

Furthermore, the fraudsters attempted to extract more money, demanding payment for a non-existent "insurance" for shipping the item.

The police are conducting an investigation.

Here is how the "Double Deception" scheme works:

Bait: Scammers create attractive fake pages or one-day websites featuring popular items (clothing, gadgets, sneakers) at attractive prices.

Prepayment: The buyer is convinced to make full or partial prepayment, often via transfer to an individual's card or an electronic wallet.

The "Insurance" Scam: After receiving the money, the item is not shipped. The fraudsters claim that "the system generated an error," "delivery insurance needs to be paid," or a "deposit is required, which will be returned later." This continues until the victim runs out of money or realizes they are being deceived.

As Dmitry Starichenok, head of the cybercrime division at the Borisov District Department of Internal Affairs, noted, scammers play on the inexperience of young people, attracting them with low prices for trendy items, and after receiving the prepayment, cynically extort money under the guise of non-existent services. Remember: a quality item cannot cost "pennies"! Assess the situation realistically. Discuss online purchases with your children.
