Agreeing to a proposal to keep quiet about an injury sustained at the workplace is disadvantageous for both the employer and the employee. What attempting to conceal a workplace accident could lead to was explained by Angela Kudina, advisor to the Main Directorate of Legal Work and Legal Support of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, as reported by 1prof.by.

For concealing an injury, the employer faces a fine of up to 50 base amounts.

According to the expert, a workplace injury should not be attempted to be recorded as an ordinary domestic injury.

For concealing an industrial accident, the employer is subject to administrative liability — a fine ranging from 10 to 50 base amounts. Given that the base amount is 45 rubles, this amounts to between 450 and 2,250 rubles.

Moreover, it is unwise to count on the incident remaining unknown.

Medical institutions themselves transmit information about injuries.

As Angela Kudina noted, healthcare organizations, by the 10th of each month, transmit to the territorial subdivisions of the State Labor Inspection Department data on individuals who received medical assistance in connection with a workplace injury.

These data are then compared with information about known accidents at enterprises.

Therefore, an attempt to reach an agreement and not report the injury may later result in problems for the employer.

The employee risks losing payments and rehabilitation.

For the injured person themselves, concealing a workplace injury may prove even more disadvantageous.

If it is not officially confirmed that the health damage is work‑related, the employee effectively renounces the state guarantees provided for them.

In particular, he may lose:

  • insurance payouts from Belgosstrakh as compensation for health damage;
  • free rehabilitation;
  • the possibility of obtaining protection in the future, should the consequences of the sustained injury manifest later.
