How the Belarusian publishing industry is developing and how many books are produced in the country, first Deputy Minister of Information Denis Ezersky reports on the broadcast of the television channel “Belarus 1,” according to Belta.
“This is the industry that is primarily linked to the processing sector. It is connected with forest processing. We have a full complex in the country related to forest cultivation and its processing, the pulp and paper industry. We have our own paper, and we have a certain share of our own chemical components. And, of course, if we talk about a book, we have writers who work on it, publishers. And in the end – a printing enterprise that already issues the book, paper and white goods, a newspaper,” said Denis Ezersky. “Today this is an industry that stands firmly on its feet in our country.”
This sector in Belarus is supported by the state. Because we have our own raw‑material base, it is easier for us, unlike our colleagues abroad, in the post‑Soviet space, to solve organizational issues. We have preserved industrial potential – printing enterprises, we have preserved publishing potential. And we have preserved, accordingly, literary potential. And
"We are saying that a book, like any information product, should reflect our ideology, our values, our culture," he noted. Today, a huge number of books are produced worldwide. Yet their content often leaves much to be desired. Therefore, the task that lies before our publishers is to provide a national product, to work with our own authors.
