In the industrial sector of the Grodno region, the “Konus” plant holds a special place – a resident of the Grodno Invest SEZ – which over the years has evolved from an ambitious import‑substitution project into a recognized industry leader. It is no coincidence that this enterprise became the venue for a joint on‑site meeting of the Standing Commission on Legislation and State Construction and the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
Speaking about the implementation of investment programs in the region, the chairman of the Lida District Executive Committee, Alexander Versotsky, noted that their main goal is the creation of innovative, export‑oriented products and active import substitution. Lida plays a confident role in this process. Over the past five years, a substantial number of projects were carried out: 22 production and 44 infrastructure projects. The total volume of investments amounted to 1.8 billion rubles, and direct foreign investment was just over 18 million US dollars.
Plans for the current five‑year period – 67 projects. The volume of funds will increase significantly – about 3 billion rubles will be invested.
The state enterprise “Konus” is one of the positive examples of investment project implementation. The plant’s main specialization is hot‑galvanizing large‑scale metal structures. It is the most durable and economically advantageous method of protecting metal from corrosion, in demand in construction, energy, agriculture, and road infrastructure. The plant’s capacities are impressive: the high‑technology line includes a closed chemical preparation area, drying, and a large galvanizing bath 15 meters long.
Initially created for the domestic market, the enterprise quickly surpassed the bounds of import substitution. Today it works actively on export: more than half of its products go to foreign customers. In the period from 2012
The high status of “Konus” is confirmed by numerous awards. The company has repeatedly been a laureate of prestigious contests “Best Exporter” and “Best Goods of the Republic of Belarus,” and has also received the Government of the Republic of Belarus Prize for achievements in the field of quality four times. Its inclusion on the Honor Board of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and on regional honor boards is a natural result of an innovative approach and a sound marketing strategy.
According to Andrey Zhamoyda, cooperation with the scientific community, in particular with the NAS of Belarus, allows the production to be constantly modernized. Today “Konus” is not just an industrial facility, but an example of how a focus on quality and modern technologies elevates a Belarusian product to the international level.
Since the production was put into operation in 2012, the volume of investment in development has exceeded 7 million US dollars. Hand in hand with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the company implements cutting‑edge technologies. Here operates the only line in the republic for passivation of metal products, which gives additional durability to fresh zinc coatings. A section of thermodiffusion zincing for small parts of any complexity has been mastered, and environmental care has brought double benefit: production waste is now processed into useful products—a iron‑containing coagulant and a zinc‑containing solution, which frees the plant from disposal costs.
At “Konus,” resources are counted: a system for using the heat of exhaust gases from the zincing furnace to warm the heating system’s water has been implemented,
The impeccable quality of the product is confirmed by international standards, but the company’s main capital is its people. Over the years, the workforce has grown more than twice in size. Management creates comfortable and safe working conditions: employee transport is provided by the company, modern showers, rest rooms and dining areas are equipped.
A reliable social package and strong corporate culture make working at “Konus” attractive. The collective agreement provides financial assistance for vacations, children, family formation or anniversaries. In addition, the company insures each employee at its own expense against accidents, serious illnesses and through a medical services program.
It is this comprehensive approach—from cutting‑edge technology to sincere care for the workforce—that enables “Konus” to confidently maintain its leading positions in the Belarusian market and beyond.
As noted by Chairman of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic on Legislation and State Construction Mikhail Rusi, concluding the meeting, today the development of the country is inseparably linked with strengthening the regions. The principle “strong regions – strong state” has become a key guideline, and the creation of new production facilities is the personal responsibility of local leaders. Investment in production means concrete jobs, decent wages and filling the budget for social needs. And the main result of such work is the confidence of regional residents in tomorrow and the retention of personnel in place.
