The owl opened its eye. Review of the "affordable flagship" Huawei nova 16s Pro

Today we have a review of the Huawei nova 16s Pro smartphone, a somewhat owl‑like and moderately cute 'owl' — this impression forms when you look at the back panel of the novelty. It is believed that the Nova line targets youth, but this segment looks rather vague: a buyer may consider price, smartphone capabilities, or prestige, while whether the person studies, drives a bus, bakes pies, or codes is secondary.

Design and ergonomics The Huawei nova 16s Pro externally resembles its predecessor, which also had two 'eyes' on the back panel, but in the new generation the company went a step further: if the nova 15 Pro 'winked', the 16s Pro received two full‑size 'discs' (while the 'regular' nova 16s got a design reminiscent of the previous 'pro' model). However, the main camera lenses remained on the left, and the right side was allocated to one of the sensors and the flash — the logic stays the same, and thanks to symmetry the device looks more cohesive.

That said, it’s a matter of taste, and some may find the nova 16s more appealing.

These elements, in turn, are mounted on an additional pedestal, so in profile the silhouette of the nova 16s Pro resembles a periscope, and the upper part visually appears heavier. At the same time, the weight distribution is familiar, the mass is almost evenly spread but shifted slightly toward the bottom. Consequently, the phone sits comfortably in the hand, with smooth edges, it does not try to slip out, and the camera block serves as a finger rest.

The smartphone comes in three colors: black, pearlescent with a more obvious gradient, and blue. The sample we received is the latter, and right away we

The side edges are metallic with a characteristic coolness of the material, with plastic inserts found around the perimeter. There are no elements on the left edge; on the top edge there is an additional microphone and a thin strip at the border with the screen for an additional speaker (on the nova 16s Pro — stereo sound); on the right edge — volume rocker and power button. Tactilely and ergonomically they differ when pressed: the volume button is slightly more elongated

Benchmarks rather reflect hardware optimization for their execution, not actual performance and capabilities.

In real-world scenarios, there were no performance concerns with the nova 16s Pro: popular 'heavy' games run at high fps with high graphics settings, heating is possible but remains within comfortable limits. The exception is precisely benchmarks, where heating becomes noticeable, localized in the upper part of the chassis b
