The National Bank notes a trend toward increased savings of Belarusians in the national currency, Belta reported in the press service of the National Bank.

In August 2026, the population’s savings activity remained at a high level. Term ruble deposits of citizens as of September 1 reached 18.9 billion rubles, increasing in August by 564.1 million rubles, or 3.1 %. Over the first eight months of 2026, these deposits grew by 3.8 billion rubles, or 25 %, compared to a growth of 2.5 billion rubles, or 23.5 %, over the same period last year.

The share of term ruble deposits in all term deposits of individuals as of September 1, 2026, reached 72.9 %, compared to 64 % a year earlier.

“The increase in the propensity to save in the national currency contributes to the continuation of processes reducing the economy’s currencyization. In August 2026, the share of the ruble component in the average broad money increased to 68.4 % from 63 % a year earlier. The structure of the money supply improves against the backdrop of operating growth rates of the average ruble money supply compared to the average broad money supply. The annual growth of these indicators was 31 % and 20.6 % respectively,” the National Bank noted.

The average size of term ruble deposits over 12 months increased by 31.1 % (30.6 % a year earlier), while individual contributions grew by 40.9 % (38.3 % a year earlier).
