Today, Alexander Egorov, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank, announced that the housing affordability index in Belarus has risen from 41 to 75% over 15 years. The picture in the regions is significantly different.

The index shows the ratio of salary to the price of a "square"

The indicator is calculated as the ratio of the average salary to the cost of a square meter.

The index acts as a thermometer: it shows how many square meters of housing can be paid for with an average income.

Over a quarter of a century, housing provision in the country has increased from 22 to 31 square meters per person.

According to Egorov, globally Belarus has made a huge leap, although some specific issues remain.

Housing affordability in Minsk is lower than the national average

At the end of 2025, the index in the capital was 65%. This is noticeably below the all-republican level.

In Minsk, the demand for housing is huge, while the supply of new apartments is shrinking every year. As a result, prices are rising faster than across the country as a whole. In the Minsk region, the indicator fell to 58% and turned out to be the lowest. This was reported by BELTA.

The state will need to address issues regarding orphans and rental housing

Some tasks still require solutions. These include providing housing for orphans and large families.

Another direction is the distribution of labor resources in small settlements through the construction of rental housing.

The National Bank emphasized that strict and clear rules are in place in the construction market. They protect depositors and national interests.

The construction sector makes a significant contribution to GDP

The industry involves resources from related sectors. It remains important for the country's economy.
