Opening the event, Rector of BGSKHA Vitaliy Velikanov emphasized that Grigory Ivanovich was not only an outstanding scientist but also the creator of a powerful scientific and pedagogical school. His contribution to the development of the agricultural sector is immeasurable, and his personal example has become a model for many generations of researchers. Moreover, the professor became the founder of an entire dynasty of talented scientists who today continue his work with the same diligence and dedication to the profession.

Dean of the Agrotechnology Faculty Andrei Hornovsky shared a touching personal memory. He recalled that once his father, upon learning of his son's admission to the agronomy faculty, proudly remarked: "You have been honored to study under a great man." These words became a kind of mark of quality and a high standard for the future dean to aspire to.

Head of the Department Galina Vitko prepared a photo presentation for the guests, allowing them to trace Grigory Ivanovich's entire life journey. Those present saw the story of a man who rose from a simple assistant to the head of a department he led for 33 years. These were decades of painstaking work, field experiments, and fundamental discoveries that turned Tarankho into a legendary scientist-practitioner, whose developments have become a heritage of domestic and global breeding.

Grigory Ivanovich made a significant contribution to enriching the world lupine gene pool with such important economically valuable traits as early maturity, resistance to the most harmful diseases, increased productivity, alkaloid-free, non-shattering pods, and others.

A scientific-pedagogical school was created under his leadership, with its main directions being selection, genetics, seed breeding, agricultural crop cultivation technology, and preparation of specialized pedagogical personnel. One doctoral dissertation and 19 candidate dissertations were defended under his guidance. All his students had successful careers. They work in various scientific, educational, management, and production institutions and organizations.

Grigory Ivanovich achieved significant accomplishments in teaching-methodological work. More than 450 works were published by him. Among them, 70 textbooks and methodological guides.

The professor also actively engaged in public affairs, served on the Council for the Protection of Doctoral and Candidate Dissertations, was a member of the General Assembly of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a member of the editorial board of the Journal 'Vestnik BGSH', and a member of the Belarusian Society of Geneticists and Breeders.

Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor Yevgeny Ravkov warmly recalled that lecture hall No. 554 was the professor's "place of strength," where he gladly spent most of his time. "He saw in us not just students, but continuers of his work, and that trust inspired us," the speaker admitted.

The speaker noted that Grigory Ivanovich was also a person of remarkable moral integrity and conflictlessness. His remarks never hurt, but they possessed an amazing power: they made people reflect and take action.

At the end of the event, the head of the department thanked everyone who actively participated in creating this memorial space. Special words of gratitude were expressed by the scientist's family members. The eldest son of the outstanding breeder expressed deep gratitude to the academy for preserving the memory of his father.
