From October 1 to 31, a month of safe labor will be held on construction sites in the Mogilev region. Throughout the month, labor technical inspectors will visit construction sites in the region, assess compliance of workplaces, equipment, machines and mechanisms with occupational safety standards and regulations, monitor how worker training in safe work methods is organized, whether there are occupational safety instructions for professions and specific types of work, whether the periodicity of briefings, internships and knowledge checks is observed.
Special attention will be paid to pre-shift medical examinations and assessments of workers, the provision of personal protective equipment and its correct use. Inspectors will check compliance with requirements during construction, installation and repair work, the condition of ladders, scaffolding, trestles and towers. They will also verify whether the construction site is equipped with video surveillance and fencing.
— The main task of the month is to help, — said Sergei Sergeyenko, chief technical labor inspector of the Mogilev Regional Trade Union Association. — Inspectors go to the facilities to, together with employers and work collectives, identify weak points, advise on how to properly organize work, which documents to correct, how to more effectively use protective equipment. Where violations are found, they will necessarily be monitored: after some time, inspectors will return to the site and check how the recommendations have been implemented.
As part of the month, educational events are also planned. There will be seminars and round tables on occupational safety, consultations for specialists, managers and directly for performers. This format allows not only to identify problems but also to prevent them.
