The Gomel transport prosecutor's office checked the implementation of legislation on the prevention of injuries at railway infrastructure facilities located within populated areas and revealed violations, as reported by gp.by in the information service of the Gomel Regional Prosecutor's Office.

It was established that in violation of legislative requirements, the lighting of the Gomel-Nechetny railway pedestrian crossing, equipped with one source of artificial lighting (a spotlight), was not provided during dark hours, despite the movement of passenger trains through it. At the same time, this pedestrian crossing is located in a crowded area - directly behind the Korona hypermarket. Under such conditions, the lives and health of citizens, including minors, were put at risk.

During the monitoring, formalism was also identified in the work of designing and installing turnstiles, the function of which is to prevent accidents involving citizens when crossing railway tracks in a hurry. For example, at the Vasilevichi station, the turnstiles did not create any significant obstacle to the movement of citizens, as there were paths around the metal barriers.

In some places, the platforms of pedestrian crossings were damaged, not all stairways were equipped with handrails and ramps. Not everywhere with an intense flow of citizens were there warning signs. At the time of the check, more than 10 students from the physical culture and sports center "Zolotaya Ryss" were crossing the railway pedestrian crossing in the area of Chernigovskaya Street in Gomel, where there were no preventive signs.

As a result, the Gomel transport prosecutor's office submitted a representation to the head of the Gomel branch of the Belarusian Railway to eliminate the identified violations, causes, and conditions that contributed to them.

Following the consideration of the supervisory act, the lighting of the Gomel-Nechetny railway pedestrian crossing has been improved, a plan of organizational and technical measures has been developed, according to which the modernization of pedestrian crossing platforms, the equipment of stairs with handrails and ramps will be carried out in stages.

At the Mozyr-Pavlochny station, a turnstile has been reinstalled, and at the Vasilevichi station, the barrier zone has been increased by extending the fencing. The employees of the Belarusian Railway have updated the preventive signs and installed warning posters.

For the committed violations, measures of material impact have been applied to four officials.
