The base PS5 will have clearer graphics. All thanks to the new upscaler.

Sony introduced the QSSR upscaler, designed to increase resolution in games on the standard PS5 without a noticeable impact on performance. In simpler terms, QSSR is a more straightforward analog of PSSR, which is used on the PS5 Pro.

QSSR stands for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. According to Sony representatives, the technology improves detail and image stability in PS5 games. In turn, this allows maximizing performance.

QSSR has already been integrated (via an update) into Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Meanwhile, other PlayStation developers have already received access to the technology. Sony says that if a game already has PSSR, adding QSSR is not difficult. That is, in the near future, we can almost certainly expect updates for a number of games.

Digital Foundry notes: in terms of power, QSSR noticeably lags behind PSSR on the PS5 Pro — yet QSSR also provides a noticeable improvement. According to experts, the technology is best suited for upscaling images to 1440p.
