Republican holiday XXXIII Day of Belarusian Writing Some prefer sauerkraut, others like pickled cabbage better. However, don't forget that the vegetable can also be stored fresh. Gardener Dmitry Kastritsky shared simple rules, sb.by writes.
As Dmitry Kastritsky noted, cabbage can be stored for a fairly long period.
— Choose late-ripening cabbage varieties — they are the ones that keep for a long time. For example, I always keep part of the harvest fresh. While it's too early to cut cabbage for storage, I plan to do it approximately at the end of October. I store cabbage in the cellar. However, if it's too humid there, the outer leaves can rot. To prevent this, after harvesting, clean the cabbage of its outer leaves and bring it into the greenhouse. Dry the heads a little so they aren't damp. Wrap them in paper on the outside, then in stretch film. As a result, during storage the paper absorbs excess moisture, while the film prevents the head from drying out and stops moisture from getting in from outside, — the gardener shared.
According to him, cabbage can be stored this way until May.
— There are other types of cabbage that can be preserved. For example, Brussels sprouts. I usually freeze them. The heads need to be cut, washed, put into bags and left in the freezer. Someone probably grows broccoli or cauliflower. They don't keep long when fresh. At best — two weeks in the refrigerator, after which they start to wilt or rot. So it's better to freeze them too. Wash the cabbage, cut it into pieces, place in a bag and leave in the freezer. That way the harvest will keep, — Dmitry Kastritsky said.
