Elon Musk confirmed plans to launch AI computers based on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin NVL72 platform into low Earth orbit in 2027. The billionaire announced this while answering user questions on X. The project is intended to be carried out as part of the large‑scale Starmind program to deploy AI computing infrastructure in low Earth orbit.

Earlier, news of a similar partnership had driven up the share prices of both SpaceX and NVIDIA. It is believed that, although the project is still in its early stages, it could usher in a new era and provide opportunities for the ever‑growing demand for AI computing.

After a test launch in 2027, the project participants plan to rapidly scale up the process by “seeding” the orbit with AI data centers. To deliver the payload, SpaceX will use existing satellite platforms modified for the new tasks, which are employed for V3 Starlink.
