Implementation of a video analytics system is planned for 2027.

Belarusian Railway and RUP "Beltelecom" are uniting their efforts to improve safety at railway crossings. The corresponding long-term cooperation agreement was signed by department heads Valery Verenich and Alexander Kenda. It is symbolic that the signing took place in the year declared as the year of technology improvement by BZD.

The main goal of the joint project is to reduce the risk of accidents on sections with limited visibility. Today there are 66 such crossings on the Belarusian mainline. They are located at curve bends where trains travel at speeds exceeding 100 km/h. In case of an emergency situation, with the appearance of a vehicle or special equipment on the tracks, drivers have only a few seconds remaining to prevent a collision.

Automated monitoring will help solve this problem. Before settling on a specific solution, BZD specialists thoroughly studied domestic and world experience and tested six different technological control options. Safety is expected to be increased through the implementation of modern video analytics systems based on RUP "Beltelecom" technical solutions and the technical systems of the state union "Belarusian Railway".

The new security system will operate as follows:

Video surveillance cameras in real-time recognize any foreign objects on the tracks (transport, people or animals).

A light and sound signal of danger will be automatically transmitted via radio communication to the driver's cab.

The warning will reach up to three kilometers from the crossing, providing sufficient time for a safe stop.

Implementation of the smart video analytics system on railway objects is planned for 2027.
