Sick Leave for Individual Entrepreneurs: How Much They Pay and How to Apply

Individual entrepreneurs, lawyers and notaries can receive temporary disability benefits — but only if they pay social insurance contributions to the FSSN, noted the Ministry of Labor press service.

How much to pay and what it gives

If an entrepreneur pays contributions equal to the minimum wage for 2025, the average monthly contribution will be 256.42 rubles. From this amount:

  • 212.46 rubles goes to pension insurance;
  • 43.96 rubles goes to disability benefits.

The calculation is based on an annual income of 8791.56 rubles, from which 35% is taken and divided by 12 months.

What the benefit will be

The payment amount depends on the tenure of paying contributions:

  • With a tenure of 10 years or more, the benefit will be 722.70 rubles per month — 100% of average daily income. The calculation is simple: annual income (8791.56 rubles) is divided by 365 days, then multiplied by 30 days.
  • If the tenure is less than 10 years, the payment will be 80% of average daily income — 578.16 rubles per month.

Even with the minimum tenure, the benefit is almost 2.3 times the amount of contributions paid. And if the tenure is more than 10 years, the payment will turn out to be almost three times the monthly contribution.

How to apply and timeframes

To receive the benefit, one must apply to the regional FSSN office at the place of registration as the payer. Six months are given for submitting an application after the end of sick leave. For sick leave due to pregnancy and childbirth, the period is six months from the start of disability.

Benefits are usually issued within 10 calendar days. If the agency requires additional information, the period can be extended to one month.

How the payment is calculated

The basis for the calculation is average daily income. It is determined by dividing the income from the previous year by the number of calendar days in a year. From this value, the final benefit amount is then formed, taking into account the percentage corresponding to the tenure of paying contributions.
