The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maxut Shadayev, said at the "Russia - Africa" forum that Russia will launch about 300 low-orbit satellites, similar to Starlink, into orbit in 2028, RIA Novosti reports.
"You see a spacecraft here. You all know about Starlink and the low-orbit constellation. This is our analogue. More than 30 spacecraft are already in orbit. In 2028, we will have about 300 spacecraft," Shadayev said during a tour of an exhibition of advanced Russian solutions in key areas of the economy and social sphere with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The minister assured that Russia will provide satellite, cheap, and fast internet across the entire globe, including in African countries.
"The main feature is that we are ready to ensure compliance with all national requirements regarding traffic control and filtering. In this sense, the state will maintain control over internet traffic. This is what we provide, but Starlink does not," Shadayev added.
