In Vileyka, the season of autumn agricultural fairs has kicked off. The harvest is in, and people are hurrying to stock up on vegetables for the winter. On Saturday, September 26, a Kraj.by correspondent visited two marketplaces.

What was on offer near Zenit

Near Zenit, at one of the two approved fairgrounds, potatoes and live fish were on sale. The potatoes were brought from Molodechno and sold for one ruble. The seller was happy to talk about interesting varieties. The German variety "Soraya" is perfect for those who love draniki with sour cream. And the pink "Baltic Rose," a premium variety, has thin skin and flesh as yellow as the sun.

Live fish were delivered from the Gritsevo fish farm in the Molodechno district. Carp and grass carp were sold for 9.35 rubles, and selected silver carp for 5.76.

Prices and selection at the fair near Dobronom

At the fair near the Dobronom store in Severny, potatoes were offered mostly at 0.90 rubles, but prices from 0.75 were also seen. Many sellers were ready to deliver them straight to your home. Large onions were 2 rubles per kilogram. Cranberries gathered from the bog were 8 rubles per liter. We asked whether there was a lot of water in the bog after the snowy winter. We were told the bog was normal, not too wet. Sea buckthorn — fresh and in sugar syrup — was 15 rubles for a jar of amber liquid.

Azerbaijani watermelons were from 1.80 rubles, melons at 2.50. Brest cucumbers and eggplants were 4 rubles. Homegrown tomatoes — fleshy, yellow and pink — were offered at 6–6.50 rubles. There was also a selection of salo and home-cured meat, offered by several sellers, with an average price of 25–27 rubles.

Saplings were brought from the Glubokoye nursery. Blueberries were from 20 rubles, sharafuga at 40. We asked about new arrivals, and we were shown the To Che San plum — yellow, large, with a one-year-old sapling going for 40 rubles. It is a Japanese late-ripening variety and should begin bearing fruit in the third year after planting.

Dahlias were brought from the Smorgon district — 3 rubles per flower, and tubers for planting at 10–20 rubles. Chrysanthemums ranged from 12 to 17 rubles. Strawberry seedlings were 3 rubles.

In addition, there were oriental sweets, nuts and dried fruits, spices, and bunches of bay leaves. You could also buy some clothing, textiles, and other everyday goods.

District fairs will be held on the weekend days of October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31, and November 1.

The autumn regional fair will take place on October 10.
