In Minsk, the possibility of paying for travel on public transport with a bank card has been discussed for several years, but so far, it is not possible to use it. In Minstktrans, they explained why the launch has been delayed and what still needs to be done.
The general director of the company, Konstantin Gololobov, on the air of ONT, said that a proprietary payment system has been developed for the capital. It will work both online and offline.
The thing is that both options have drawbacks. With online payment, the passenger will not be able to pay if the internet is lost, and with offline payment, the money is debited later, and by that time, the card may be blocked, expired, or simply not have the required amount.
Therefore, in Minsk, it was decided to combine both methods. However, such a system had to be additionally tested in real conditions. Tests have already been conducted on bus and trolleybus route No. 1. Now Minstktrans needs to purchase equipment. The requirements for it were formed based on the results of the testing.
As soon as the equipment is purchased, the system will be launched, and not only in Minsk, Gololobov said.
According to him, in the future, it will be possible to pay for travel with a bank card on public transport throughout Belarus. The system will operate on the basis of the processing center of Minstktrans.
At the same time, the familiar paper tickets will not disappear for now. They will be preserved for passengers who do not use bank cards, including elderly people and guests of the capital.
