In June of this year, Belarusian customs authorities reported uncovering an illegal scheme under which nearly 300 electric vehicles were imported into the country. Three months later, officers of the Operational Customs Service dismantled a second criminal scheme involving the cross-border movement and sale of electric and hybrid vehicles. This time, a Belarusian company brought in more than 100 units of Li, Mazda, Nissan, and other brands.

"For customs clearance, the perpetrators submitted documents containing information indicating that the vehicles were being shipped for personal use to shell individuals. Afterward, they were resold through the company," the State Customs Committee revealed.

It is reported that, on average, the savings on customs payments and the disposal fee per vehicle amounted to 60,000 to 80,000 rubles, while the total damage to the state is estimated at approximately 7 million rubles. To recover the losses, more than 40 vehicles were seized, the value of which comes to about 7 million rubles.

A criminal case has been opened against citizens of the Republic of Belarus and foreign nationals acting as a group of persons by prior conspiracy under Part 2 of Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The article provides for criminal liability up to imprisonment for a term of six years.
