The preparation and holding of a Belarusian-Georgian business forum was discussed in the Council of the Republic, BelTA reported.

A meeting was held in the Council of the Republic with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Belarus, Giorgi Sagenelidze. The sides discussed ways to intensify bilateral dialogue and cooperation in various fields between the two countries. "We paid special attention to inter-parliamentary dialogue. Recently, contacts along this line have intensified. We also focused on the economic dimension of our cooperation. We have a decent dynamic in mutual trade turnover. Over the past 4–5 years, we have managed to double the volume of our exports to Georgia. Also, in the first six months of this year, the volume of our exports to Georgia increased by 90%. There are good prospects to reach an even higher level," noted Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security.

In the context of discussing the prospects for intensifying trade and economic cooperation, the sides talked about the preparation and holding of the Belarusian-Georgian business forum. "We will prepare for it jointly along governmental and parliamentary lines. We also agreed to pay special attention to the women's dimension and plan to hold a separate meeting of women entrepreneurs at this business forum," the Chairman of the Standing Commission emphasized.

The issue of developing industrial cooperation was also considered. "In Georgia, there is a service center that deals with the promotion and maintenance of agricultural equipment of 'Gomselmash' and other our enterprises. In eight cities of Georgia, about 40 stores with Belarusian products have been opened, which are loved by our Georgian friends. At the meeting, the conversation touched upon the possibility of creating a larger trading house with not only Belarusian food products, but also goods from light industry enterprises, cosmetics, and possibly some other products," Sergei Aleinik said.

The participants of the meeting also did not bypass cooperation in the fields of education, medicine, and tourism. "Belarus ranks seventh in terms of the number of tourists visiting Georgia. Of course, we are interested in increasing the reciprocal tourist flow from Georgia to our country," the parliamentarian noted.

Giorgi Saganelidze added that there is a very strong foundation for strengthening friendship between Belarus and Georgia. The peoples of the two countries have always been friends and continue to be friends. "The leaders of our countries are aimed at strengthening these relations. We are trying to intensify relations with Belarusian colleagues in various areas," the diplomat emphasized.
