In the agri‑industrial sector, there are few women leaders. Yet when they take on a task, they strive not to fall short of men. Anna Kizin, director of the experimental base “Volno,” the only head of a farm organization in the Baranovich district, is already a little early in the fields, driving around the agricultural plots. She must be everywhere, know every detail, and be aware of everything that happens each day in the farm.

From childhood, Anna Viktorovna’s parents instilled in her a love for her native land and for agriculture.

“I was born in the village of Zagor’ye, my mother and father worked in the local farm at that time; now my mother is retired and my father still works,” she tells about herself. “I have an older sister and a younger brother. Discipline and hard work have always been part of our lives. From childhood I helped my parents with the farm, which was no small operation: we kept a lot of livestock and cultivated several hectares of land where we grew vegetables. It was a real support, a way to provide for the family during the difficult 1990s. Moreover, my parents built their house in Torčitsy at that time, where we moved. So I am familiar with herding cows, milking, preparing hay, and plowing. And if needed, I can sit behind the tractor’s wheel.”

When it was time to choose a profession, Anna and her older sister entered the Novogrudok Agricultural College, where they studied to become agronomists.

“We have potential.”

Anna Viktorovna began her career as a seed‑breeding agronomist in 2009 at the experimental base “Volno.” Later, due to family circumstances, she worked in other farms, simultaneously obtaining a higher education, and in 2017 she returned to “Volno.” Two years ago, Anna Kizin was offered to head the farm organization.

“You know, I never aspired to or thought about career advancement,” Anna Viktorovna confesses. “I was well acquainted with the difficulties that exist in our farm, but at the same time I saw that we have potential.”

It was precisely because of her character—bold and determined—that Anna Kizin decided to try.

Of course, seed farming, producing elite and super‑elite, and developing livestock require deep knowledge and constant progress. Therefore I never consider it inappropriate to ask for advice from more experienced people, she says. As
