Headline: New exits on MKAD and bridge over Drozdy? What will be the road network in northern Minsk
A quick glance at the map of Minsk is enough to notice some imbalance in the density of the road network within the MKAD. The capital's center lies between two reservoirs—Cnyaan and Drozda—and is clearly empty. But the situation is changing: the "Northern Shore" quarters are being developed, new streets are being built and existing ones are being reconstructed, and so on. Here is what exactly will happen, and we'll discuss it today. Current plans have been shared by Onlíner as well as by RiverSide Development Limited, which acts as the developer of the "Northern Shore."

Bridge over Drozdy?
Map of the area
Orlovskaya — Karatoynovaya — Langbard — MKAD
Let's take a walk from the western shore of the Cnyaan reservoir and the developing "Northern Shore" quarters to the west, heading toward Drozdy, i.e., counter-clockwise.
At Minskinjproject, they are working on developing construction projects for engineering and transport infrastructure, and currently, one can say that the final stage of planning for the quarters up to the eighth is underway. It is clear that where residential buildings are growing, a system of new road major axes and transport connections is forming.
The capital is developing within a radial-ring scheme, which is also implemented in the north. And one of the new "rays" will soon stretch from the Second Ring to the MKAD. The route will pass along Lili Karatoynaya Street and Yosif Langbard Street.
On Lili Karatoynaya Street, construction works are currently active, with the travelable part being expanded from Nekrasova Street to Orlovskaya Street with further development toward Kulman Street. The task for this year is to ensure here a direct connection, as specialists note. In the area around the intersection with Orlovskaya Street, there is mutual junction with the design of the fourth metro line, so big innovations are expected for the district.
Construction work is also underway on relocating the "Karatoynaya" dispatch station to DS "Kulman."
In the future, Lilya Karastoyanov's Street will be connected to Iosif Langbard's Street, a section of which was opened last year. Currently, Iosif Langbard's Street is open on the section from the inner ring of the MKAD to Pavel Maslennikov Street. It is less than two kilometers from there to Lilya Karastoyanov's Street; the connection should be in the area of Nekrasov Street.
As a result, a new direct route will appear from the Second Transport Ring to the "Northern Coast" and the MKAD.
By the way, within the framework of the project, a territory for the development of rapid public transport is laid along this route. Whether electric buses or perhaps a high-speed tram will operate on this line, we will see. The overhead contact system for a tram was not included at this stage, but, however, we are not ruling out any options for now.
And also, in the project, there is an exit from Iosif Langbard's Street to the outer ring of the MKAD. Everyone who drove on the ring road in this area saw that the road is prepared, the embankment is there, all that remains is the overpass to the outer side.
Orlova — Smorgovsky Trakt — Polina Medelka — MKAD
Another "ray," which according to plans will connect the Second Transport Ring and the MKAD and which we noticed on the project schemes, will pass through Smorgovsky Trakt and Polina Medelka Street. This will not be as wide a route compared to Karastoyanov's — Langbard's, but it will still play its role in distributing traffic flows as an alternative, as a duplicate.
However, talking about the prospects of its creation is premature for now; this is clearly not a top priority for the builders.
Solving the problem of Dolginovsky Trakt
The role of Dolginovsky Trakt in the "development" of the northern part of the city can be called defining. Another stage of construction work is currently ongoing there. It can be considered that the tract is ready up to Chervyakov Lane, but further, in the direction of Orlova Street, that is, to the Second Transport Ring, there is still a lot of work ahead.
The plan is clearly formulated: Dolginovsky Trakt is to have six lanes along its entire length. However, private development is in the way. In "Minskijprojekt" we were told that the plan involves demolition (of course, after resolving issues with citizens' property rights). After Chervyakov Lane, the main route will change direction, essentially turning onto Starovilensky Trakt.
Once the space is cleared, the tract will be expanded, and the old problem of the "bottleneck" before exiting onto Orlova Street will be resolved.
