The company Meta is resuming its efforts to popularize virtual reality. The tech giant has announced the Meta VR Glasses device, its latest development in the VR market. Unlike the Apple Vision Pro, these glasses are much more compact and lightweight, and the numerous announced features for entertainment and work are expected to attract buyers.

"This is a real breakthrough!" exclaimed Mark Zuckerberg from the stage, presenting the Meta VR Glasses. According to him, the company has managed to create a new type of VR device that provides the same "magical feeling of presence and immersion" with high-resolution displays and images of the surrounding world in a form factor that resembles glasses for the first time.

Meta claims that this gadget is five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3, and it looks much more like regular glasses than the bulky headsets the company has released before. The frame is made of a magnesium alloy, and the glasses run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite processor. They connect to a computing unit that also serves as a battery, allowing users to simply put it in their pocket to use the glasses on the go.

The glasses are primarily designed for entertainment. The built-in micro-OLED panels in the lenses provide, according to Meta, a 5K Infinite Display with a density of 37 pixels per degree, as well as support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound.

However, perhaps one of the most unique features of these glasses is that Meta positions them as an excellent way to enjoy movies filmed in the IMAX format, notes TechCrunch. The glasses also support 3D content, including movies where the user's physical space is integrated into the viewing process.

Additionally, Meta VR Glasses, according to the manufacturer's idea, can be used for work - any space can be turned into a personal virtual office with an unlimited number of screens, the company claims.

The Meta VR Glasses will also have Meta AI built in - the company's signature automated virtual assistant. Users will be able to talk to the glasses and automate various tasks using voice commands. For example, Meta claims that you will be able to start watching a movie simply by asking the glasses to do so. Other ways to give commands include hand gestures.

The device will go on sale in the spring of 2027 at a price starting from $1299.99.
