Minsk Automobile Plant plans to ramp up production of terminal electric buses for airports in Belarus and Russia. This was announced by the director of the Scientific and Technical Center — chief designer of JSC MZ — managing company of the BELAVTOMAZ holding, Andrey Savchits, at the VIII Scientific‑Practical Conference “Electric Transport: Reality and Prospects” held on the grounds of the Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum, reports the BELTA correspondent.
Andrey Savchits noted that MZ is actively developing the field of electric transport, offering both passenger electric buses and electric trucks. He shared experience with energy‑storage systems on equipment and spoke about promising development directions. One of them is the production of terminal electric buses. They have already begun operating at Minsk National Airport. The model is being refined.
“Next year we plan to increase the number of electric buses produced for airports in both Belarus and the Russian Federation,” said Andrey Savchits.
In addition, electronic platforms are being tested for freight transport, which allow virtually any model to be quickly and cheaply converted into an electric version. An electric low‑floor tractor‑trailer has been developed.
Last year, 100 high‑class MZ‑303E23 electric buses were produced for Saint Petersburg. The fleet undergoes periodic maintenance. “We are gaining operational experience with long‑range usage,” noted Andrey Savchits, adding that the company is working on improving technical specifications.
