The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade conducted a survey among pet owners to find out their preferences when choosing veterinary clinics and their attitude toward service prices. The results are in the sb.by article.

About 5 thousand respondents took part in the survey, of which 95% are pet owners. The main share was made up of women (85.6%) aged 21 to 50, with almost half living in Minsk, MART reports.

More than 75% of respondents have their pets served at private veterinary clinics and only about 9% at state ones.

Why choose one clinic or another?

The most important criteria for owners were:

Professional doctors — 48.7%.

Close to home — 38.7%.

Affordable prices and good service — 26.6%.

24-hour operation — 20.8%.

Recommended by friends — 20.1%.

Price perception

More than half of those surveyed (over 50%) believe that prices for veterinary clinic services are overpriced. At the same time, 18% of respondents believe that prices are affordable and fully correspond to the quality of services.

How do they find out the cost of services?

The majority of owners (43.7%) call or write to the clinic, 36% find out the prices on the clinic's website. Only 11.3% find out the cost already at the appointment.

How much should an appointment cost?

Almost half of respondents (49.7%) believe that a regular veterinary appointment should cost up to 30 rubles. Another 34.7% are willing to pay 30–50 rubles. Only 8.5% consider a price of 50–100 rubles acceptable, and 2% — more than 100 rubles.

How important is it to know the price before a visit?

56% would like to know the approximate cost, for 28.2% of respondents the price is an important factor, and 10.8% consider it paramount that their pet be helped regardless of the price.

Price and bill correspondence

About 60% of respondents noted that after the appointment the price of the service practically did not change and corresponded to the information received earlier.

Price increases in emergency cases

For urgent care (at night or on a day off), 45.2% agree, provided that the increase is not too large, 28.9% of respondents consider the price increase normal, and 19.5% are convinced that the price should always be the same.

Payment transparency

For 70% of owners, it is important to see a detailed breakdown in the act of services rendered: what exactly they are paying for — examination, tests, medications, etc. Almost another 20% consider it desirable. Only 4% do not attach importance to this.
