Market makers for government bonds emerge on the exchange

At the Belarusian Currency-Fund Exchange, market makers for government securities began working. For short-term bonds of the 412th issue in Belarusian rubles, OOO "Belagroprombank" performs the market maker function, while for long-term bonds of the 380th issue in US dollars – ZAO "Aiginis".

A market maker must during the trading day maintain buy and sell orders for bonds in the trading system with a limited spread and volume not lower than established. For the investor this means that bonds with a market maker can be bought or sold during the trading day at a price close to the market, without waiting for a counter-order, explained at BVFB.

As the chairman of the exchange board Andrey Aukhimenya believes, a market maker is a guarantee that an investor always has a counterparty:

— Until now, a deal with government bonds depended on whether a seller or buyer could be found at the right moment; now, for issues with a market maker, bid-ask pairs with a limited spread are constantly available in the trading system. The next step is the appearance of market makers for the most demanded government bond issues, and then for corporate ones.
