cherikovnews.by September 22, 2026, 9:49 The Ministry of Energy of Lithuania reported that the Baltic republic and the American corporation EQT signed a contract for the supply of natural gas, calculated for 10 years, TASS writes.

The agreement, signed by the state-controlled energy company Ignitis with EQT Corporation, provides for annual supplies of around 1 TWh of gas in the period from 2027 to 2036, the statement says. According to the department, this amount covers 40% of Lithuania's need for natural gas.

This is a concrete step to reduce our vulnerability in this area. In the event of an unexpected increase in gas prices on the European market, lesser dependence will help mitigate the consequences for consumers in Lithuania, the statement quotes the words of Energy Minister Lukas Savickas.

Lithuania purchases liquefied natural gas in Norway and the USA, and can also receive natural gas through a pipeline from Poland. The country's gas reserves are stored in a storage facility in Incukalns, Latvia.
