The Latvian government plans to extend the ban on international irregular passenger transport by bus through border crossing points with Belarus and Russia for a year. This is reported by Latvian media.
According to Latvian authorities' plans, the ban will be in effect from November 1, 2026, to October 31, 2027. It applies to all carriers regardless of the country of registration of the legal entity or the vehicle. Currently, restrictions are in effect until October 31, 2026.
The ban concerns routes passing through the "Paterniki" crossing point on the Belarus border (on the Belarusian side - "Grigorovshchina"), as well as the "Grebnev" and "Terikhovo" points on the Russia border (on the Russian side - "Ubylinka" and "Burachki").
Regular passenger transport restrictions have not yet been introduced. However, amendments to the law on road transport have been prepared, which includes a ban from January 10, 2027, on regular and irregular international passenger transport by bus to Belarus and Russia, as well as a ban on international transit transport through Latvia's territory to these countries.
