Blogger JerryRigEverything, who specializes in detailed smartphone crash tests, tackled a brutal durability review of the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable phone. And, judging by the blogger's test, the device both surprises and disappoints: he handled one set of challenges well, but struggled badly with another.
As the video shows, scratches appeared on the inner display after the blogger used a tool with a hardness of 2 on the Mohs scale. JerryRigEverything notes that due to the matte coating, scratches on the iPhone Duo are less noticeable than on competitors' screens.
It is noted that even with IP68 protection, the iPhone Duo failed a sand‑contamination test: the phone's titanium hinge jammed, and it stopped closing fully.
Could JerryRigEverything break the device by bending it in the opposite direction? No, but after several attempts a green stripe appeared on the inner display, and soon the screen stopped responding to touch altogether.
Recall that the starting price of the iPhone Duo, unveiled on September 9, is $1,999 for the 256‑GB version. The device proved so popular that Apple had to push back the delivery dates of its first foldable phone to the end of January.
