Unified databases, specific investment areas, and joint projects were discussed at a meeting of the scientific and expert council under the Permanent Committee of the Union State, reports BelTA.

The co-chairman of the scientific and expert council under the Permanent Committee of the Union State, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, proposed creating a unified database of assets of Russia and Belarus in the field of high technologies. Such a database would allow for coordinating joint initiatives with the needs of the Union State and assessing available resources and competencies for their implementation.

He added that Belarus and Russia need to focus on specific investment areas and joint projects. "We need to match the priorities of Belarus and Russia and move from general concepts and programs to concrete project-based cooperation," emphasized the co-chairman of the scientific and expert council.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, it is necessary to develop Russian-Belarusian companies. "In Belarus, about 2.4 thousand companies with Russian capital operate. In Russia, 238 companies with Belarusian capital are registered. About 71% of Belarusian companies in Russia are engaged in wholesale and retail trade. It is necessary to pay attention to increasing the number of projects in the processing industry. This area should become one of the key ones for joint companies," he added.

Another proposal was the active involvement of private capital, state resources, and the potential of friendly countries in joint projects. In particular, the co-chairman noted the possibilities of cooperation with China. "We need to use the potential of friendly countries, first of all China, to attract new knowledge, technologies, and investments in the projects of the Union State," he said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich also proposed revising the system of preparation and implementation of Union State programs. According to him, the procedures for selecting and coordinating projects, as well as the start of their implementation, often take a long time. "As a result, individual initiatives may lose their relevance even before launch. Now is a convenient moment to reform the system of preparation and implementation of Union State programs," he explained.

In addition to that, the expert noted that the economy of Belarus is focused on development. "Exports make up about 65% of GDP. Therefore, development should not be just investment-based, but innovative in its nature. The talk is about high technologies, competitive productions, and high-liquidity goods," he said and named the China-Belarus industrial park "Great Stone" and the High-Tech Park as some of the important points of growth. In his opinion, such platforms form the innovative potential.
