At OJSC “Bezdzhe‑Agro” on the Zavernie MTF there is now one more important facility. Last week a new calf house, intended for the farm’s smallest inhabitants, was solemnly opened here.

The event was approached with special reverence. The entrance was decorated with bright balloons and fresh flowers, creating a truly festive atmosphere. The highlight of the opening was the traditional ribbon‑cutting ceremony, and to bless the new venture and keep the animals healthy, the calf house was consecrated by the rector of the Church of Saints Equal‑episcopal Constantine and Elena, Father Alexander Zinovich.

The tour of the new facility was led for us by the farm’s chief animal scientist, Natalia Melek. She explained in detail the conditions created for the calves and showed how the modern space is arranged to provide a comfortable start for the young stock.

We could see firsthand that the new calf house is a modern, spacious, and bright building where every detail has been considered. The pens in which the calves are kept are essentially a kind of modular unit that can be easily disassembled for thorough sanitary cleaning and disinfection, which will completely break the chains of infectious diseases in the young. Maria Yarmots monitors the preparation and cleaning of the calf pens. The bedding is chosen as the best light straw to make the calves as comfortable as possible while growing.

• There are also adjustable curtains in the prophylactic room that not only allow temperature regulation to balance the interior and exterior of the building but also eliminate drafts. If the weather is windy, the curtains are lowered; if it is calm, the curtains can be opened fully to allow airflow," explained chief animal scientist Natalia Melek of JSC "Bezdyezh-Agro."

Preparations for the winter period are already in full swing on the farm. Special attention is being paid to the care of young stock. To ensure comfortable conditions for calves in the cold, the farm has already taken care of purchasing insulated blankets. According to specialists, they are ready to work in extreme conditions. In case of a sharp cold snap, heaters will be deployed, and additional watering is organized to maintain animal health. This comprehensive approach allows preserving the herd and ensuring stable operation of the farm even in the harshest winter days.
