Farmers in the Grodno region face the task of completing the harvest of corn for silage by October 20, reports Grodno TRK. This year they plan to prepare about 3 million tons of succulent feed for cattle. This amount will be sufficient to feed 600,000 heads of cattle kept on the region's livestock complexes.

Yield higher than last year

As Igor Sorokin, chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee's Committee on Agriculture and Food, said, the yield of the 'queen of the fields' is pleasing – 340 centners per hectare, which is 20 centners per hectare higher than last year's figure. As of this morning, 65% of the planned silage corn has been harvested in the Neman region. If it does not rain, the work pace on the corn fields will not be reduced.

Simultaneously, farms are harvesting corn for grain. As of today, 17% of the area has been threshed. The yield is also good – 110 centners per hectare, which is 10 centners per hectare higher than last year. The gross harvest amounts to 100 thousand tons. Traditionally, such work will be completed in November.
