Another city day of occupational safety at JSC "Gomel Chemical Plant" was dedicated to ensuring healthy and safe working conditions, measures to prevent industrial trauma.

In its work, participants included representatives of the labor, employment and social protection committee of the regional administration, prevention subjects, and more than 60 chief engineers and occupational safety specialists of the city's enterprises.

At the equipment and machinery exhibition, employees of the gas protection service of the enterprise, which ensures safety when handling dangerous chemical substances, demonstrated the operation of some tools and equipment. Participants of the city occupational safety day also visited the control center and production section of the double superphosphate shop, the occupational safety office, the workshops, and the enterprise museum.

Galina Samsonova, deputy head of the labor, employment and social protection department of the regional administration, indicated the purpose of holding the city occupational safety day:

– At the Gomel Chemical Plant, measures taken to prevent cases of trauma and to prevent professional diseases were demonstrated. Unfortunately, in most cases of industrial trauma that occurred in Gomel this year, the victims themselves are to blame. Therefore, the main thing is to convince people that at the workplace one must be careful, attentive, and use all personal protective equipment.

Chief engineer of the chemical plant Sergey Kiselov noted that this enterprise is one of the most complex, since here dangerous chemical substances are handled:

– Therefore, for us, occupational safety and worker safety is a priority task. This is preventive work and preparation for emergency response, we train personnel in safe working methods, using high-tech equipment. Almost two thousand people work at the plant, more than 120 of them are public labor inspectors (

– In Gomel, there is a rise in total industrial trauma - from 53 cases during a comparable period of 2025 to 66, and there is also an increase in deaths at work (from three to five). The guilt of the perpetrators has been proven - violation of labor protection legislation requirements, local legal acts, personal carelessness. But there were also cases of operating faulty equipment, allowing people to work without conducting briefings and internships.

Valentina Yevmenko, head of the occupational hygiene department of the city center of hygiene and epidemiology, named typical violations of legislation in the field of sanitary-epidemiological well-being:

– It is necessary to carry out industrial control of compliance with sanitary-epidemiological legislation, conduct industrial laboratory control at workplaces, and apply the entire set of measures to create healthy and safe working conditions.

Senior Assistant Prosecutor of the city of Gomel Olga Semenenko spoke about the responsibility of employers for non-compliance with safety requirements:

– Compliance with labor protection legislation is the duty of every employer. One should remember that violations of requirements are subject to disciplinary or administrative liability, up to criminal liability, depending on the resulting consequences.

Labor safety day has become an important step in developing effective labor safety measures for strict compliance with legislative requirements in this sphere.
