Today, autumn agricultural fairs continued in Gomel. One of them, in the Soviet District, unfolded as usual at 8:30 AM near the "Festival" Palace of Culture.
Farmers and personal subsidiary farms from across the region, along with beekeepers and city trade enterprises, offered Gomel residents a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as honey, mushrooms, seeds, dried fruits, and other products at attractive prices.
Early in the morning, the first customers came to assess the goods or to buy products they already liked. Vladimir Konstantinovich and his wife, Natalia Petrovna, were among them.
"Last weekend, we bought a few kilograms of potatoes from seller Danila Aleksandrovich to try; we liked the quality, so today we decided to buy more," Vladimir Konstantinovich said.
His wife added:
"The potatoes are simply wonderful – no 'eyes,' clean, and most importantly, delicious. We got a cart to buy a whole sack. And in time – we found a buyer for the remaining quantity. Besides, we also buy juicy, aromatic apples from this same seller, and today we purchased several kilograms."
Ivan Timofeevich, who arrived at the fair for the second time that morning, followed their example.
"First, I bought lard, kidneys, and dried fruits. Now I want to buy apples, and also garlic for planting. I have a garden, so I come to the fair for products that I don't have in my farm. The choice here is quite large," the Gomel resident noted.
Among the popular items at the agricultural fair were cabbage, onions, pears, and dried fruits.
The large family of Svetlana and Artem bring vegetables they grow from Turov to Gomel.
"We come to Gomel for the fairs on weekends; the rest of the week, our whole family, including my parents, works on our farm – we have several hectares of land," Svetlana shared. "We grow potatoes, cabbage, peppers, and sweet corn. Our younger son, Matvey, helps with sales – he gives bags to customers and helps pack the goods. This year, besides potatoes, peppers, cabbage, and sweet sugar corn are selling well."
Those who have a garden or a dacha came to the fair with a different purpose – to choose fruit tree saplings or berry bushes.
Victoria Viktorovna, a resident of Novaya Guta in the Gomel District, has been growing blueberries with her family for several years – previously for the berries, and recently also for obtaining saplings.
I offer seedlings of various ages to buyers: both those that will bear fruit already next year and small ones, says the villager. I give all buyers a guide on how to care for blueberries, and I invite them to our place in Novaya Guta to see what this berry plantation looks like. I want people to love blueberries and not consider them exotic, because they are very healthy and eating them brings pleasure. We also work with remontant raspberries, currants, we have started growing grapes, and last year we had our first experience forcing tulips. Our seedling prices are quite affordable.
There is a wide selection for winter and honey products: several beekeepers offered various types of honey (including in the comb), as well as wax products.
The agricultural fairs continue to operate, so Gomel residents have the opportunity to buy vegetables and fruits for winter and choose other related goods.
